Summer of 1971: As Thomas Jefferson in a summer stock production of the musical "1776" at the Pocono Playhouse in Pennsylvania. We also played the Central City Opera House in Central City, Colorado as well as Elitch's Theatre in Denver. I loved doing this show, one of the too-few musicals I've done. It was directed - in one week! - by Eddie Roll, one of the original Jets in "West Side Story." John Adams was played by William Linton, Ben Franklin was Jack Harrold, who later taught me singing in New York, and Martha Jefferson was a beauty with a gorgeous voice named Susan Long.
