"This was taken while shooting the CBS miniseries "Chiefs" in Chester, South Caroline during the summer of 1983. I spent a lot of time in the series working with Charlton Heston on what turned out to be that rare TV feat, a critical AND ratings success. Directed by Jerry London and adapted from a wonderful novel by Stuart Woods, 'Chiefs' also starred Keith Carradine, Paul Sorvino, the late Brad Davis, and Victoria Tennent, with the cast also including John Goodman and Danny Glover before they were stars.

I came to like Heston enormously (despite our adamant disagreement on gun control). He's a great story-teller, having worked with just about everyone in the film business from the generations before me. If you've never seen Orson Welles' classic "Touch of Evil," check out Heston in that film's astonishing opening shot, one of the most extraordinary sequences in film history. I could, and did, listen to Chuck (as he's called by friends) tell stories for hours."
