Stephen as Christian in Act IV of the Williamstown Theatre production of "Cyrano," in 1980. "The play was a great experience in every way. Nikos Psacharapoulos, the director, became a friend and mentor. He died in 1988 and I'll always miss him. Frank Langella was a triumph with audiences and critics as Cyrano, and he was a terrific acting partner. During rehearsals, he and I went to see the movie "Urban Cowboy" in nearby Pittsfield. The next day, Frank and I did an entire run-through of "Cyrano" using totally incongruous Travolta-Debra Winger-white trash-Southern accents. The whole cast laughed for three straight hours. Nikos let us get away with it because rehearsals were going so well and we were, if anything, ahead of schedule and ready to open."

"Ellen Lambert was the publicist at Williamstown that summer, and this picture was her opening night present to me."
