With Kate McGregor-Stuart, Sigourney Weaver, and Jim Borelli in the original production of Christopher Durang's comedy, "Beyond Therapy," at New York's Phoenix Theatre, 1981. Directed by Jerry Zaks. This is one of the funniest plays I've ever done. I worked with Chris again years later in Sondheim's "Putting It Together." Kate McGregor-Stuart played my shrink, and she was so funny that I couldn't look her directly in the eyes without breaking up. I played to her eyebrows, her forehead, her hair, and prayed to get through it each night. She was stupendous. Sigourney was just about to become a huge star. Jim Borelli is now writing, and is also one of the funniest people on earth. Not pictured here is a wonderful actor named Jack Gilpin, who was truly brilliant in the play. It got excellent reviews and moved to Broadway the next fall with Kate and Jack, and with John Lithgow and Dianne Weist in the roles I and Sigourney played. But it flopped, as did the movie, directed by Robert Altman.
