In 1986, Actors Equity, the union for theatre actors, sponsored a two day seminar in New York on non-traditional casting. To illustrate the idea that casting against racial type can work, James Earl Jones and I performed the second act of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" as father and son, with Jones as Big Daddy and me as Brick. The director was John Cappelletti. It worked. And it was amazing to work with the legendary Jones, who was awesome in the part.
